The OAS Panel of Independent International Experts on the possible commission of crimes against humanity in Venezuela, appointed by the OAS Secretary General on September 14, 2017, and composed of Santiago Canton, Professor Irwin Cotler and Dr. Manuel Ventura Robles, considers that the decision of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court to open the investigation into the situation in Venezuela signifies a first recognition of the rights of thousands of victims who have so far not been heard and an important step in the fight against the impunity that persists for crimes against humanity committed in Venezuela.
As it has done to date, the Panel will continue to monitor the situation in Venezuela and provide information or cases relevant to the analysis of the situation.
