A Belizian based IT professional has turned the COVID-19 downturn into an upturn for himself as things were “mad busy” for him over the last two months.
It has been shown that businesses that survived the COVID-19 economic fallout were the ones that pivoted to the virtual realm. Those firms were allowed to sell their goods and services without the need for in-store shopping- something that was shockingly made off limits for many businesses for the first time in their existence.
Nic Farmani, owner/operator of FEXP Design (Farmani Expressions Design) in Belize, however told Caribbean Magazine Plus that he has been “mad busy” in the last month having built Belize’s social media platform “Mek Ah Si,” as well as building other websites for other companies.
After starting up less than a year ago during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr Farmani has built four websites and has another six lined up. He explained: “All the small businesses and entrepreneurs are prepping for the up season and the big boom that’s coming once borders are re-opened.”
FEXP’s websites are across the sectors as Farmani said that he has done websites for the hotels sector, real estate and agri-business sectors’.
He said: “When COVID hit I was laid off from my job as a Sr Business Analyst so I decided to start my own company as I was tired of working for the big guys 60-70 hours a week. I figured I would put that time and effort into myself and work for myself so I started FEXP Design. Since then I have also been moonlighting as a web designer on the side, it was a no-brainer that I would focus on web design.”
Right now Mr Farmani is working on a website for a US based customer that will be launched really soon. His most recently completed project is for the SDA School in Belize City.
The education sector gets a 60 percent off on the start-up price, “We also threw in extra pages and integrations for free,” Mr Farmani said.
Mr Famani had a long and winding road to Belize. Originally from Compton, Los Angeles, he married a Belizian woman and came to the country with the “goal and mission is to help Belizeans develop their careers in remote IT work.”
He also said: “I started my technology career in 1998 as a desktop technician and worked my way up to an IT Business Analyst working for all Fortune 100 companies in the states.
“I eventually made my way here to Belize to start my company and an IT training program which starts this January here in Belize. More details on the training program at www.sforcebze.com”
