I can’t for the life of me I don’t understand why some non-Barbadians are so pissed red to see Barbados become a republic? It baffles me?! Why can’t you just be happy for them? And the strange thing is, the more intelligent and upstanding the person is making the comments about Barbados, the republic, and how they made Rihanna a “national hero,” the assier and assier (I know, I know… it’s not a real word, but to hell with it) the comments become.
I got into a small back and forth with a gentleman over, guess what, Rihanna’s titties poking out of her dress while she was being honoured. Instead of retyping verbatim what they said I will just cut and paste it here so you can read it in its full glory!
Say “no wonder we have lost respect for ourselves, children and country, but then ask ourselves why we lost the respect and decency. Take a back seat, if you have no self-respect and class.” LOZ! I thought it was all of the dope smoking and drug dealing and the glorifying of “World Boss” and Dexta Daps that did it, not Rihanna’s, or anybody else’s, titties. *sigh*
See why we can’t come together? Things like this. Rihanna is a multi-millionaire and in fact a billionaire now, she doesn’t need to be reminded why she left these small rocks and cays for a better life. What you should be doing is trying to figure out how she can help more of us down here on these slave-bastions and these plantation economies we call countries, republic or not.
You can go to the Facebook Group “Caribbean Cultural Vibrations” to read the rest of the exchange. In all fairness not all were as negative to Barbados or Rihanna, but just this person had me a little stunned. Like what did you expect from Rihanna? She is an entertainer. Just like what did we expect from Bob Marley? He was a Rastafarian entertainer!
Get to appreciate one another.
