January 14, 2022
January 12, 2010 – January 12, 2022: It has been 12 years since the earth shook. Goudougoudou’s force killed more than 250,000 people, and nearly 300,000 were seriously injured, damaged, and left without a trace.
January 12, 2010, is a curse date, which brought tears to our eyes and pain to our hearts. However, it was followed by a strong wind of global solidarity for Haiti. This leads us to believe that Haiti will indeed change. Despite efforts to help some families of victims, and to begin the process of rebuilding the capital of Port-au-Prince, we are far from the goals set.
January 12, 2022, the situation has worsened because Haiti and the Haitian people are still under rubble.
Haiti is plagued by famine, unemployment, economic crisis, health crisis, insecurity, violent crime, kidnapping, population displacement, violence against women, violence against girls and boys.
January 12, 2022, our country is still under the rubble of bad governance and the resignation of a state that will not educate the population and impose regulations to prevent another similar catastrophe.
January 12, 2022, our country is still under the rubble of the absence of a policy for our environment, sanitation, urban planning, and landscaping.
January 12, 2022, Haiti is still under the rubble of corruption, political instability, and the mismanagement of the country’s wealth, where the poorest people are living in greater misery and despair.
January 12, 2022, the Haitian people are still under the rubble of the absence of social programs, housing, and equal access to education so that all children have the same chance of life.
Therefore, today, January 12, 2022, while we remember our family and friends who died and the bags that still suffer in their bodies, not to mention the victims of August 14 in the South, Nippes and Grande-Anse, I invite you: “come with me to wash the face of your country”.
My compatriots, I believe in Haiti, I believe we want another Haiti. I am confident that if we work together, we will rebuild Haiti, we will Save the Honor of our country, we will have a strong Haiti, we will have the Haiti we all dream of.
I am waiting for you to start the konbit.
Your compatriot, Jude Elie.
Thank you all.
