A Haitian Presidential hopeful is warning current Prime Minister Ariel Henry to establish security in the country and prepare for general elections.

Jude Elie, President of the political action group Sove Lone and presidential hopeful, told Caribbean Magazine Plus: “My biggest concern is that the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigations) arrived in Haiti the day after the assassination of President Jovenel Moise.

“They have interviewed dozens of people, have arrested and held a couple of the leaders of that horrendous crime. It has been seven months since and nothing is forthcoming from the FBI.”

Mr Elie was speaking out in the wave of a CNN report that detailed that a Haitian judicial source told them that there are severe irregularities occurring throughout the investigation into the killing of Moise.

With all of this added controversy swirling in the air now, Mr Elie added: “So you can understand why I am a bit sceptical of all allegations being bantered left and right?” Scepticism has been a looming demon over the country since its inception as wave after wave of political instability has threatened the livelihood of thousands of Haitians, forcing them to leave the country in droves for a better life elsewhere.

Mr Elie persisted with positivity however, “I strongly believe in a new and better Haïti. Together we will make Haïti Strong.”

He added: “I want it to be difficult for any government that will follow my presidency to place Haiti on a back pedal.  Anyone that will lead the Haitian Government after me will have the responsibility to continue the work that we have started.  Any government following mine will feel obliged to invest in the development of Haiti.”

When asked about what should happen to Prime Minister Henry now that more details are emerging about his involvement in the Moise assassination, Mr Ellie said, Henry should focus on two things only: Establish Security and Prepare General Elections.”

Haitian General Elections are uncertain since the untimely demise of Moise. His death threw the political cycle in a tailspin with political leadership scrambling to make sense of the succession regime in their Constitution which ended up with Prime Minister Henry being established as the leader of the country.

Prime Minister Henry later stated that he hoped to hold the elections in early 2022. On 8 February 2022 he called for renewed efforts to organize elections, but still no date has been confirmed.
