The region seems to be getting back to regular problems now. The latest regular problem is with our financial centres being under attack. The loss of correspondent banking in our jurisdictions is taking a toll.
The latest report we published shows how deep this loss from de-risking means to this region. It is affecting remittances, tourism and how we import even food. It feels like a famine is on the way. We had better be careful, because the larger countries don’t care once their people are eating. It’s not that they and their leaders are bad people, but well fed and secure people tend not to care about anyone else.
This de-risking is a regular problem now. We have weathered the COVID-19 pandemic for the most part. We are turning the corner on this and learning how to deal with the disease and keep safe. If up to this time you are walking around without a mask and not sanitizing your hand and at the very best had gotten vaccinated, you are a bozo and we need to be protected from you.
So, back to regular problems: The attacks on our financial system seem racist at worst and snobbish and elitist at best from the “Western” power structures, doesn’t it? It’s not as if money laundering doesn’t happen in Europe and it is not as if drug dealing doesn’t happen in the US, but they just seem to think that these small, developing Caribbean islands are the major problems in their own corrupted systems- This feels like violence being thrust upon us. If they weren’t pretending to be so decent nowadays we could be colonized, raped and put into slavery all over again.
It’s sickening how people tend to forget who they are and what they do and act all brand new or they are not better and holier than thou, but we know who you are and we won’t let you forget who you are no matter how much you don’t like to look at yourself in the mirror.
The region has to weather this financial collapse soon to be an avalanche because if we cannot access financing then there isn’t much anything we can do. Russia will find out how costly this war with the Ukraine is now that the “Western” power structures have cut off all of the international banks from doing business with it.
