This young Bahamian lifestyle photographer is branching out into videography and entrepreneurship.
Udaijah Taylor, owner/operator of Daijah70 Photography, Nassau, Bahamas told Caribbean Magazine Plus that she considers herself a “lifestyle photographer,” instead of a wedding photographer because the former allows for more diversity and style. “I would deal with your self-portraits or your couple sessions. In terms weddings, I have done weddings but I wouldn’t call myself a wedding photographer and I would say a lot of the money is in weddings, but I really, really like where I can do more lifestyle things like creative shoots.”
Taking photographs is just part of the joy for this 23 year old businesswoman as the world of photography opened up a door to new people on a regular basis that she would have never met. It allows someone like her an opportunity to share in other people’s most intimate moments and learn about them in a deeper way.
“I really enjoy this. I get to meet new people from locals to even international clients. I get to meet a lot of great people. So for me, that’s what makes photography really enjoyable,” Udaijah said.
She also has a degree in hospitality management, so she is an extrovert by nature and profession. “I’m definitely branching out. My passion has always been videography, but photography just took over for the moment.” Udaijah also does short films and mini-documentaries of Bahamian life and between writing scripts and photography/videography, she has her full creative talents on display.
Udaijah also said: “My dad also does filmmaking and I have seen him on sets where he did movies and television shows and things like that. So I learned a lot from him and I shadowed him a lot, but in terms of the network, I feel more acquainted with the people in the photography world than the people in the videography and film world,” but getting back into the videography world is something she is getting back into this year with short films.
Becoming a visual artist takes a lot of attention to detail as not everyone can take a picture or capture a moment on camera or film, something Udaijah says takes consistent practice and experimentation. “If you are a creative person and you have the vision to put people into photographs then photography definitely is for you. There is so much flexibility because no one could tell you what to do or that you are holding a camera wrong. There is so much emotion that you don’t see but you can convey through a photo.
“It gives you sort of free rein and once you’re able to bring that vision that you have in your head to life, it’s like instant gratification because you put all of this hard work into trying to make this photo come to life and with tools like Photoshop you can make the unimaginable happen.”
Beautiful Photos! Ms. Daijah70 is really talented, can’t wait to see what the future has in store for her!
