EDITORIAL:  Short story contest update!

Dear all,

We have been receiving a lot of questions about the short-story contest results. Dr Hunte is still reviewing the last scripts. As you can imagine, it is not an easy task and she has to read every one. So we ask for a bit of patience on this.

There were some good entries she said, but she just is not finished yet, but we hope in short order we will be able to deliver a word to you in good time. It’s not long now.

As per the speech contest going on now, please do enter that. We are trying to help the Caribbean Toastmasters Association with this as our charitable event so please make an effort. All you have to do is take a video of yourself delivering a speech, save it to Google Drive or DropBox and share it with us and the text of the speech. Some of you have Megs of videos of you just posing in front of the camera, so do something useful with your talent and time we urge you.

As for other business, we are still doing a lot more things in the background. We are overcoming some setbacks and jumping over obstacles right now. People think this is easy, but we can assure you it is not. The time and effort it takes to put on one function among the other things we have to do is stunningly exhaustive.

A lot of people think it just pops up by itself. Like we didn’t have to struggle with multiple banks to get an e-commerce solution, like we don’t have to pay taxes to keep a business license, like finding evaluators to evaluate the various contests is just a one shot conversation, like we have extra marketing dollars to boost events and contests forever, like everywhere we go we receive automatic favour and people just fall at our feet and give us what we ask for on the first day- all of this is before we try to keep the content in our magazine fresh and diverse so people would read and spend time here.

These things cost money and time and a lot of humility, but I would call it humiliation at times. LOLZ! But we believe bringing people together is worth the time and effort and the cross we bear. God spoke to me and said to do these things!

Also people are of this gross misunderstanding that we are making thousands of dollars off of this. We are certainly not. Actually, it costs us more money to do these events than we make anything back from it. Every time we put on a different event from when we did our first poetry contest- which we will run again this coming May- we have people under our social media posts doing mathematics, counting the money they believe we will make. LOLZ! Speak it into existence we say.

But as said, be patient with the short story contest. Dr Hunte’s job is not easy and she is a full time lecturer, so we are taking time away from her job.
