The Sandals Resorts chain should be sold to a reputable hotel operator or taken public. It’s gotten too big to be a family business now. Actually, it was too big for the founder Gordon Butch Stewart when he passed and certainly too big for his son Adam Stewart.
The company should look to go public at the very least. As this chain needs more accountability. From sexual assaults and rapes to union busting to massive firings of poor people to now deaths on the properties. There is no way the company should be able to remain private like this. With American deaths and the company having its corporate offices in Miami, Florida, pressure should be put on the Stewart family to make a move. Sad, but true. Too much responsibility for one man/woman to have all of the decision making in a multinational entity like Sandals.
This should not be looked at as a shameful endeavour. Even mega-entities like Facebook had to go public at one point because it became bigger than its founder, which is a good thing. I think Facebook would be worse off if Mark Zuckerberg had kept it private- there would be less accountability and more privacy intrusions and secrecy from the company.
My humble advice to the Stewart family, take the company public. Don’t be selfish. Let Butch Stewart’s dream live another generation without all of the risk of the scandals.
