The short answer to the title is most likely. We know how litigious Americans are and the question seems to be where will they file the suit? In The Bahamas where the deaths occurred, or in the United States? They would want to file lawsuits in the US, but it does not have any effect on Bahamian law.
If they file lawsuits in Bahamian courts then be prepared for the long ride because the wheels of justice moves slowly in these islands. The first thing they would need is a reputable lawyer, which will be costly like most lawyers are in developed countries. When I say good lawyer, I mean a lawyer that is not only intelligent but connected to the establishment in the country.
Sandals has their tentacles in the elite camps of the power structure in the country. They hire a lot of people and they carry some clout, well at least its deceased founder, Gordon “Butch” Stewart had connections. We don’t know how dirty his son Adam is or how much of his father’s morally bankrupt habits came to him, but never sell anyone short.
Sandals more than likely has this coming to them. They uprooted many lives around the Caribbean, from mass firings to destabilizing governments as a result of it. At least that’s the legacy the late Gordon Stewart left behind as much as his hotel chain is his legacy.
We still do not want to see a Caribbean company of such magnitude go under, but if the lawsuits are large enough, which more than likely they will be, and coming at a time when the resort was closed for such a long time, it may not be able to recover if the lawsuits come in the tens of millions.
All we need now is for the sexual harassment and rape allegations to stir up again. We know how these lawsuit swarms go.
May God go with Adam Stewart with trying to carry on his father’s legacy.
