The Commissioner of the Babe Ruth Baseball for the Caribbean said that the annual classic will be coming back to The Bahamas next year after this year’s successful event which landed the host country with a spot at the Junior World Series in Branson Missouri this year.
Greg Burrows Sr, told Caribbean Magazine Plus that after this year’s successful Babe Ruth Region Caribbean Championships and Invitational at the Thomas A Robinson Stadium in The Bahamas that saw nine out of 12 teams participate from around the Caribbean that it will come back to The Bahamas next year and be bigger than this year’s event.
Mr Burrows said: “This year was the first time the event was hosted in The Bahamas. We definitely hope more teams would be a part of it next year, but when we do the wrap up meeting that determination will be made.”
The Babe Ruth Baseball League is a non-profit educational organization named after baseball legend George Herman ‘Babe’ Ruth. The event had teams from Aruba, Cuba, the Cayman Islands and Puerto Rico, The Netherlands Saint Maarten, and the host country The Bahamas.
The Bahamas won both categories, the 12U and the 16U division. “This is a pathway to the World Series and it puts The Bahamas in the World Series in Branson Missouri and one of the teams will be representing The Bahamas and the other team will be representing the Caribbean because the winner of the 12 U tournament represents the Caribbean,” Mr Burrows said. The host country also gets a direct berth, so The Bahamas is able to send two teams to the World Series.
