EDITORIAL: Is sunken treasure in your country?

August 2, 2022

So The Bahamas has found sunken treasure in its waters. A find dating back from the 1600s. A Spanish galleon that sunk carrying gold and emeralds stolen from the Americas.

I wonder how much of it is left smattered throughout the Caribbean and Central American region? We were advised that this sunken galleon has over $1bn in various gold pieces and artefacts and that there may be many more within the Bahamian waters. Amazing!

Had your country even thought about sunken/hidden treasure? Whether it is Spanish, Portuguese, British or pirate treasure, the odds of them being out there has to be very high and you need to know!

The company in the Bahamian search, Allen Exploration, have set up some sort of museum for people to come and visit and take a look at what they have found. The Spanish government has an interest in it and are trying to lay claim to it, saying that it is the property of the Spanish government. Good luck with that.

I could imagine there are boatloads of treasure right in the Yucatan Peninsula as well as off the coast of Trinidad. Just an educated guess, considering that they were high traffic areas as was the Bahamas. Odds are something was sunk and the authorities should give it a good look-see. It’s worth looking into.
