EDITORIAL: The Caribbean is busy again!

August 16, 2022

So we have a major climate conference going on in The Bahamas, we have the Caribbean Development Bank having preparing for their 53 Board of Governors meeting in St Lucia next year and we have Caribbean Broadcasters Union having their AGM in Trinidad and Tobago. No more COVID-19. Yay!

No sarcasm at all. It is a wonderful thing to see things getting back to normal and us focusing on issues that affect us all other than the pandemic. We need this burst of meet-ups. Now, will anything come of these meetings is another story altogether.

The Broadcasters Union is what it is, it should have no policy impact on the region. It may not even touch their viewers to any large degree. It is just one of those events on the calendar.

The meeting ahead of the Board of Governors meeting is nothing more than fluff ahead of the more substantive meeting next year, which is important don’t get me wrong, but it is what it is. Fluff.

Then we have this climate meeting in The Bahamas. The first of its kind. All of the climate change players in the region and then some descended upon The Bahamas to plan strategy ahead of the COP27. We hope good things come of this because times are getting hotter and hotter, no pun intended.

Let’s hope a message for the COP27 is crafted the way the organisers of this climate conference envisioned it. We believe!
