EDITORIAL: Is Kamla worth a third chance?

August 30, 2022

We are a part of a small United National Congress (UNC) led Whatsapp Group and we are seeing all of the back and forth and building up over their party leader, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, a woman who has lost three consecutive elections and whom the party re-elected to take them into the next general elections when it is called. Are these people deluded?

Why on earth would you want to run a person who the sitting Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley beat now three times in a row? Obviously he has her number. To me, it seems as if they are both in it together and she is the patsy to keep Dr Rowley in power because he has something on her. Don’t laugh, it happens all the time in politics.

But, UNC hard liners could swear over a stack of 20 bibles that Kamla will do it this time. Notwithstanding where people in her own party openly disrespect her when the opportunity presents itself and side with the sitting government’s positions. Notwithstanding that disaffected UNC party members prefer to stand on the outside as independents- most of them not even decided to join the ranks of the People’s National Movement (PNM)- and just watch s Persa-Bissessar run into another humiliating loss.

Our first notice of how naïve and childish and politically nutty Ms Persad-Bissessar was when she fired up to 15 of her cabinet ministers between 2014 and 2015 when she served as prime minister.

I don’t know what makes her ardent followers believe she has something new, but I hope they are not too heartbroken when it is found that she is defective yet again come election day.

We only talk it how we see it!
