EDITORIAL: Has everything gotten back to normal? We think so!

October 18, 2022

Travel has resumed, the masks are off and the COVID-19 numbers are all but non-existent. Praise the Lord. It was three long years of people going out of their minds not being able to do what it is they wanted to do, whether it was travel, go out to dinner or even the mall as a family and enjoy the simple things in life, without the fear of death, literally.

The CARICOM is back and up and running again more efficiently too. They have been quite the busy bodies this past week, from seminar to seminar to meeting and the like on almost all organs of the agency. We like Dr Barnett, we believe she is a breath of fresh air that the CARICOM needed. A refreshing change of pace. She is also not a vapid woman either, which is a double plus.

We also see tourism showing signs of significant prospects for at least Barbados, if you read the story of BLR and Dwayne Johnson we did today. A new hotel to open on November 1 is already booked solid for the Thanksgiving straight through to February 2023. All Barbados needs to do is lift the mask mandate and they would be off to the races. We don’t see why they shouldn’t lift the mask mandate. Things are settling now.

But we always have to report the bad news. The MS-13 Gang is now a fixture in Central America and there seems to be nothing anyone can do about it. They are more organised and financed than they were 20 years ago when law enforcement officials began hearing about them. Once young men can be enticed to join these groups for whatever reason, it is too far gone.

Other than that this is the wrap up. Enjoy the rest of the week!
