Orange Economy Could Be Lucrative With Development, Says CEO

December 6, 2022

While tourism is making a strong comeback and diversification into fields like crypto, tech and services are rapidly, successfully expanding, Caribbean nations should also take care not to ignore the potential of the orange economy, says Caribbean Employment Services Inc. CEO Joseph Boll.

Caribbean Employment Services Inc. is a market-leading digital talent acquisition service that aims to connect the top talent from the Caribbean with hiring managers, HR professionals and decision-makers in companies both within the Caribbean as well as abroad. Further, it aims to provide the region’s jobseekers and those who are already employed with news and resources related to Caribbean labour.

According to its CEO, Joseph Boll, Caribbean cultures are loaded with creative talent that the orange economy could tap into for economic growth and job opportunities.

“This is an industry that could also collaborate with digital services in terms of tapping into the global digital market and taking advantage of even more opportunities there,” said Boll. “Tourism and agriculture and fisheries will probably always have a place in the Caribbean labour market, and we’re seeing more often that the region is steadily making its way to becoming a tech hub, with more and more digital jobs being introduced by the day. But the orange economy and more creative jobs can also play a part in that, and with some real development in those areas, I would not be surprised to see it take off to quite a lucrative extent.”

Earlier this year, CARICOM launched a “Creative Caribbean” project to bolster development in the entertainment sector in particular. However, Boll noted that not much had been heard of the project since, remarking that more sustained investment in this industry could yield positive results if taken seriously.

At the same time, he noted Grenada’s newly elected government has recently pledged to invest in this area, with a view to expand development, increase GDP and support local entrepreneurs.

“We definitely support this initiative and look forward to seeing how it turns out,” said the CEO.
