EDITORIAL: All hopes for the New Year!

January 6, 2023

Welcome back as we start a New Year, a new journey into this Year of our Lord, 2023. We have much to look forward to, despite the losses and hangovers from 2022.

We have the Antigua elections on January 18. That ought to be fun. We have the Prime Minister Gaston Browne promising to kick a rival’s ass in that of a former cabinet colleague of his, Asot Michael, not too long ago. LOL… I wish I was there to see and record that. *snicker*

Other than that, it is quite predictable over there. Despite the threats of violence, Browne’s Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party should win again. The Opposition parties are not even worth speaking about. We see shades of Dr Keith Mitchell’s “old foe”*rolls eyes* in the foil of Nazim Burke, who was clearly only a straw man and set up to lose to Dr Mitchell.

It was so bad because I was wondering how long would the people of Grenada let that go on? It was obvious the Mitchell/Burke match up was a set up. But thank goodness the National Democratic Congress got rid of Burke and went younger, in that of Dickon Mitchell who is now the Prime Minister of that country after having beat the older Mitchell in the last general election. I wonder if there is any relation between Dr Mitchell and Dickon? Nah, they wouldn’t dare do that. But would they?!?

On to more economic news, there is slow growth projected for 2023 says the ECLAC. As long as the Russian/Ukraine conflict continues and as long as inflation remains high in America, it will be a hard trek to growth for most of us downstream. We just have to be patient, sit it out and hope that the best happens for the most this year.

We will keep our eyes on everything else. Stay tuned.
