The Inter-American Development Bank’s latest macro-economic report just a few stories back shows us how fragile this post COVID-19 recovery is. In fact, it looks like anything but a recovery, but at least we are out of the pandemic.
The fact of the matter is between inflation and the war in the Ukraine, we are lucky to all still be here. The cogent ones that is and in our right frame of mind. LOL…
We need to reset the world. We cannot continue like this on this plane. We need a renaissance of economic idea and thought. Even climate change and eco-friendly economics has gone stale. So too has corporate social responsibility and the new social order. It’s old news and has all cracked under the weight of the dire nature of the pandemic and has not recovered post-pandemic, at least not yet.
Also in that report is the truth about the tourism dependency of the Caribbean. While this is something we all knew, but it is something we have not addressed. We have gotten accustomed to doing things as they were while the world has changed.
This post-pandemic recovery must see tangible changes in the way we thought about the economy and recovery. These discussions must now take place at the policy level, or else the next pandemic or catastrophic event that shuts the world down will leave us wanting again.
