What a wonderful way to come out of the Easter weekend, with news that the Caribbean Magazine Plus top three finishers for the 2022 Short Story Competition have been selected. All thanks to Dr Nichola Hunte and her evaluation team for helping us out again. Without them this competition would be next to nothing. We sincerely thank her for volunteering her time and her expertise to broaden the literary base of the Caribbean.
More importantly, we want to thank all of those who entered into our second short story competition. The entries were excellent and they were hard to sift through, I can assure you. If you did not place, do not be discouraged as we endeavour to do this again next year. So there are other opportunities for you to be recognized in the region.
We may not be the Booker Prize or the Commonwealth Short Story competition, but we are holding our own for the intimate little space and following we have on the internet. We appreciate all of our readers and followers for helping us to take these steps to help more people.
But, as the title of this editorial states, we are on to the next competition. We will do our Poetry Contest again this coming May. By far our most popular competition as people are now salivating for it.
The TropicSpin Music and Song Competition is also in the pot boiling down. We are looking for sponsors, hot and heavy, so if you support the arts, please contact this magazine or Arawak Media to lend your support for our talent.
We also promised a photo contest, but are not sure how it will play out. Particularly, how it will be organised and marketed to the people. We have enough trouble with legitimising the Short Story and Poetry Contest as it is. Taking up another contest, to spend money, to get less than hospitable responses all without making a return on it, is really something we are not prepared to do at this time.
We desperately want that photo contest. But there is a lot of work that has to go into it. A lot of connections and arrangements that need to be made. Pray for us and our team that we organize it properly because to do it even halfway properly, means a lot of man hours. As you can imagine, these things don’t just pop up online as available. There is a lot of money and time and resources spent to ensure we have a great product that people can enjoy and feel comfortable being a part of. It really is about bringing us all together as one.
Anyway, thank you once again for supporting our Short Story contests. Special thank you to Dr Hunte from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill. Subscribe to us to stay posted on what’s going to happen with is next!
