Who would have thunk that the LAC did not have a coherent voice on climate change issues, even though they have been the most vocal? The recent report from the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) on Finance Taxonomies showed that there needed to be better coordination on how countries classify their particular climate change assets and initiatives.
I guess it was easy to assume that all of this would be commonplace, but having a think about it, we can understand why this is important. You may have someone in Guatemala calling a storm surge something totally different in Spanish, with the same effects that it has in Trinidad and Tobago. So when “the region” goes asking for money for climate change mitigation support, they are writing different financial support packages for the same thing.
In addition, as goes everything in this world, it is about gender equity and as women become more involved, things become more acute and marginal as they put their touches on certain initiatives. Not that it becomes droll and pedantic, just that they may see some things in a different lens than a man would sitting in virtually the same seat. All voices need to be involved in this.
The report, while not breaking the chain on any problem we have on the climate change front, does provide for more clarity on what needs to be done about what.
