A Guyanese fashion designer brings brilliantly vibrant flora and fauna on fabric to make designs that are unreal in their beauty.
Quinton Pearson, owner/operator of House of Pearson, a fashion house in Guyana, told Caribbean Magazine Plus about when he saw his talent as a fashion designer begin to materialise: “As a child, my family always encouraged me to pursue my God given gifts and talents, sketching clothing was one of those things I was passionate about. After high school, I made a decision to study and practice the Art of Fashion. After doing some soul searching, I realized this is what made me happy.”
Mr Pearson surely is happy as his colour scheme in his designs are exquisite and vibrant, showing off his array of eye watering colour schemes and patterns.
We had to ask him about his creative process and how do these designs pop up into his mind and then on to fabric, where he said: “I am constantly learning new skills, techniques and knowledge to improve my crafts and business. I find it satisfying to have creative freedom. I gain inspiration from my travelling experiences, discovering various cultures and communicating with new people. I am also a lover of nature, the flora and fauna of Guyana. So when I’m inspired by something, I sketch, then source the perfect fabrics and I create my designs. It is one of the most rewarding feelings to create from an inspired thought.”
The flora and fauna of Guyana shows up in his work too, as you can see from his vibrant floral prints and designs.
Mr Pearson’s work is not selected for Guyana alone. In fact, he has a wide view of where he wants his work to be seen. He told us: “Over the past six years, my brand has been ever growing and reaching a wider range of persons.
“I have been supported by people of all walks of life, from International athletes to some of Guyana’s most successful Artistes. I believe my brand is universally appealing and I look forward to further growth in the near future.”
The fashion industry has suffered tremendously during the COVID-19 pandemic however, something Mr Pearson is dealing with first-hand. He is now steadying his eyes towards 2021 and looking forward for the wedding season and Carnival season around the Caribbean to start in early 2021.
Mr Pearson also told us what he expects to see for the House of Pearson in 2021 where he said: “In 2021 there will be new lines being launched, more exciting events and a lot more involvement in collaborations, charity and travelling. I believe in working honestly and making sacrifices to achieve your dreams, we have the ability to create our own destiny.”
