EDITORIAL: The orange economy in the region is so vibrant!

January 19, 2024

I don’t think we appreciate how much talent we have in the Caribbean and Central American region. So many artisans that we can’t keep up with all of the new names and offerings. We have to capitalize on this on our own.

We at Caribbean Magazine Plus try our hardest to organize competitions for poets, writers, songwriters and the like. But we need support to do it. So far, very few entities in the region are supporting our talent to the point where they have to make us ashamed by being acclaimed elsewhere. Then we want to put our name or stamp on them, so disgusting is that. We need to embrace them here. They are ambassadors for us, letting the world know we are decent people here too.

Monetizing art and entertainment must be put centre stage. It will only bode well for us as a people. We need to have cultural displays every month. We need to have competitions every week. We need awards shows just for us. We don’t need a foreign prize or entity to put a stamp of approval on our people. We can do that ourselves.

We need to begin to love and appreciate the talent we have in the region. I refuse to sound like a broken record or to join in the cacophony of voices saying the same thing because Caribbean Magazine Plus is out here doing it and we enjoy it.

The TropicSpin will be launched again very shortly. The Short Story Contest is ongoing right now. We will continue to add to the cultural vibrancy in this region.
