Haiti has a new Prime Minister. We thank God for that. Let’s see how long he lasts with security in the country being extremely low and gangs having had control of the country for the better half of this year.
The new PM is a former sports minister. Typically, sports ministers are not the brightest of the bunch when it comes to dealing with stately and international matters. They are, more than likely, on the lower rung of the cabinet pecking order behind the social services minister and are not expected to do anything much on the national level.
To top it off, people know very little about the new PM. He is an unknown. We just have to wait and see how he gels with the establishment in Haiti. Perhaps they wanted someone they can control and were afraid of anyone with a bit of perspicacity at the helm?
While I do not have a feeling of dread yet, we just have to watch how it plays out. It could go badly, or it could end up being the best thing for Haiti. We just don’t know. But odds have it that the new PM is already starting at a deficit.
We continue to pray for Haiti.
