EDITORIAL: The summer madness

July 5, 2024

This year is moving pretty quickly. By the time the summer is out, America will have removed a sitting president due to age, Venezuela would have a new president, hurricanes would have devastated the Caribbean and it will probably be the hottest summer on record. Not bad for 2024, but still a far cry from what we had in 2020 with the pandemic.

The year is also going by extremely quickly, are you making the most of it? I sure hope you are because we will soon be at Christmas and you will have to make evaluations of what you have done with the 366 days you were allowed to enjoy.

At the end of it all, remember that as with the pandemic, troubles will past. Confusion dies down and you are back to peace and calm.

But for the remainder of this crazy summer, let me encourage you to volunteer for a summer programme or two. There is nothing wrong with spending at least an hour a week with people that need to see someone with a good word.

We believe in volunteerism and helping out where we can, this is why we will be giving some of our time with a boy’s home, helping with their reading programme. Of course we want more literate people, how else would they read Caribbean Magazine Plus?

Plus, reading and writing is fundamental. We cannot allow anyone in our reach to leave school without being able to read and write, unless they have a severe learning disability. We will do our best!
