At least there is not an all out war in Venezuela now. But the inauguration of Nicolas Maduro is leaving a sour taste in the mouths of many.
For all intents and purposes, the July, 2024 election in Venezuela was, to say the very least, flawed. The votes were not properly counted and there were concerns of election irregularities.
Now we have the incumbent “winning,” the election and promptly began to attack the opposition and arrest several of them amid massive protests against that election.
Things have started to settle in the country, relatively speaking, but now the opposition have kicked off again by having meetings with US officials, raising the ire of Maduro who has been on record about the meddling of US officials in the country.
This is all Maduro needs to influence the minds and hearts of the Venezuelans left in the country.
The opposition seems amateurish in their approach. The time to meet with US officials was back in August at the very earliest and early December at the very latest. Everything else plays into the hands of Maduro’s regime.
But, we can understand the opposition having a problem with reaching out to the Biden administration, considering the US just had their own presidential elections in November, coupled with the fact that president Biden seems to be unfocused at doing even general tasks, let alone complex geopolitical issues.
We hope for the best for all Venezuelans.
