Twenty year old Angela Mejia was remanded to His Majesty’s Prison in Antigua (HMPA), charged with the brutal slaying a missing nine year old, Chantel Crump.
Crump went missing last week Wednesday and was allegedly abducted by Meija from her school.
Mejia, who is believed to be incarcerated in isolation for safety reasons, is scheduled to return to court on June 4 for committal proceedings. During this hearing, more details of the case are expected to emerge, providing further insight into the chilling circumstances surrounding the child’s tragic death.
Meija is being held in isolation at HMPA for her own safety as Crump’s murder has shocked and incensed irate to the point where it is presumed Meija would be in danger before she makes it to her June 4 committal proceedings.
“The senseless killing of Chantel Crump, along with the numerous unsolved murders and the heartache of countless missing persons, weighs heavily on our collective conscience. These acts of violence are not merely statistics, they represent lives cut short, families shattered and communities left in despair,” the Antigua Christian Council said in a message.
It is also understood that Meija was in Antigua illegally. It is understood that Mejia had been arrested in November last year, reportedly for a fighting incident at ABICE, and it was discovered that she had no legal time in this country.
It is also being said that Meija was sent to the Immigration Detention Centre at Coolidge.
Despite this, Mejia was released and, on November 15, given an extension of time, which expired on February 13, 2025, just about a month before the abduction of Crump.
