Let’s get straight to the point here, what do we export to the US that Trump’s 10 percent tariffs would truly hurt? At best we export Rum and Seafood, predominantly, from the Caribbean to the US.
Yes, there are some cases like in Trinidad where they export some oil bi-products, but the Trinidadian oil sector has more problems than a 10 percent tariff.
What we should be worried about is the rest of the world retaliating on Trump and that triggering a global recession because supply chains start to seize up.
The bright side of these tariffs is that it would ease the inflationary pressures in the US by cutting disposable income spending with Americans. Good may actually become cheaper in the long run.
We have all suffered as a result of America’s inflationary pressure, brought on by years long slack monetary policy that has flooded the market with US dollars.
This may work out in the long run. I prefer to be patient on Trump’s tariffs.
