April has gotten off to a fast start so far. We have the resumption of Norwegian Cruise Line for July 25 and in August they will sail to Montego Bay, Jamaica and also to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic – all of this off of the back of newly released technical guidance from the Centres of Disease Control in the US. NCL will join Crystal Cruise and Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, both of which will resume sailings this June from the Caribbean.
That pesky little volcano in St Vincent and the Grenadines has seen a bit more earthquaking and shaking. The last time it had a series of earthquakes like this was in 1979 when it moved from the shaking to an actual explosive eruption – around the same time of year. The 1979 eruption happened on Good Friday April 13. We still have a few days to go in order to see if it will repeat on April 13, but it sure did give folks in SVG a scare this past Good Friday.
Then we had Royal Bank selling its Eastern Caribbean assets to a consortium of national banks in the region, something they were planning to do for quite some time as that part of the Caribbean had proven to be unprofitable in the long term.
We will have to monitor all of it to keep on top of things to ensure we don’t miss any details, but what an exciting start to April. We are not even halfway through 2021 yet and the news just keeps piling on despite the COVID-19 pandemic- which, by the way, is still raging through the increased vaccinations of people around the world.
We must continue to be vigilant and keep our guards up, wear our masks and don’t take any chances with people we don’t know.
