In the midst of turmoil and a natural disaster erupting with La Soufriere at St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the hard-working team of the UWI Seismic Research Centre which has set up camp on the island as it monitors the activity from the active volcano round clock, an unlikely critter has emerged bringing smiles to the team.
On the Centre’s Facebook page, they were sure to make mention of him, giving him the unofficial official title as their “pet” pig, and the fitting nickname Tremor. The team says he has been popping around the Belmont Observatory every morning since explosive eruptions began on April 9.
It’s a known fact that a number of livestock animals were set free during the eruptions, and as instinct would kick in to help them survive, he has found his way to the team where he most likely thinks he will find food and sustenance as everything, including water ways, plants, grass and other rummaging sources have been covered in dense layers of ash arising from the volcanic explosions.
Since sharing its latest addition to its observatory team on its Social media pages, Tremor has become a source of attraction, adding hope of life after the ongoing destruction La Soufriere continues to spill on the island, bringing smiles to those following the Research Centre for its latest updates.
Some have even suggested this his presence might be heaven sent to watch over them and keep them company, as animals often offer a sense of comfort when humans are distressed and can also tell of pending activity.
Over the weekend, fans of Tremor were sure to send the team some bags of pig food. The team took to their Facebook page to express thanks to those who donated fruit juice, water and food for their new-found teammate, which they say he was all too happy to have followed by a mud bath he enjoyed with glee.
On behalf of Caribbean Magazine Plus, we thank the hardworking team of the UWI Seismic Research Centre, for keeping us abreast of all the activities occurring on the island. You can tell Tremor has also found a fan by us here at CMP.
