It was just last week where we were chastising climate change muppets for being vague on the climate change data, and not relating it to previous experiences and past weather events. But here comes the United Nation’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPPC) sixth assessment report that gives us exactly what we have been asking for.
I can imagine it was a huge undertaking in trying to extrapolate all of the data and flesh out all of the inconsequential bits and pieces to give even a 12th grader something to hinge their hats on with regard to climate change science, but they did to a great degree- although not as clear and as crisp as a layman needs to understand the complexity and severity of the situation.
What they did, no oil giant or conservative leaning fossil fuel dinosaur should be able to assail so easily. Not only have they shown definitively how the world has been heating up gradually over the last several years, they also explained away the notion that this was just a natural stage of the earth’s life cycle and drew comparisons to previous times in history where weather patterns changed dramatically as well and never has it been so dire as it is now with a considerable warming of this earth.
What the scientists missed, however, was a chance to explain unimpeachably how human actions could lead to a considerable decrease in climate warming. That was a little vague, though they spent a lot of time talking about it. It was left up to the reader to draw inferences on what it all meant.
The IPCC should follow up this report with more concrete data on how the little aerosol can you use for your Lysol adds to the carbon footprint. I know it has been beaten to death how spray cans and gasses affect the atmosphere, but in this instance a report like this should be followed up with extreme and direct evidence of what your little gas guzzler does to the planet on an hourly basis.
At least we are a little more convinced that definitely the world is heating up and it is not just a regular cycle of the world’s revolution, but indeed it is getting hotter.
