A Caribbean Night in Tauranga is promising to raise money for a good cause through food, dancing and entertainment.
The Cargo Shed will be hosting an unforgettable evening on Friday, July 5, of Caribbean delights and charitable giving in support of Good Neighbour’s Life Skills Programme, named Caribbean Nights, a Flavourful Feast Fundraiser.
This event, run on conjunction with Good Local, promises an evening of good food, great entertainment, and a chance to make a difference in the lives of young people in our community, says Good Neighbour community engagement manager Angela Rogers.
“The evening will feature a three-course vibrant meal reflecting the lively colours and flavours of the Caribbean, live music from DJ Purs, captivating performances from Djembe drumming group Rhythms Of The Long Water, raffles and silent auction items offering an array of exciting items; all in support of Good Neighbour’s mission to empower youth and foster a sense of belonging within our community,” says Angela.
“We wanted to create a good time and good vibes, so Caribbean Nights was a natural fit to bring warmth to the middle of winter.
“The event is being held from 5.30pm, and tickets are $95 each, or a table of six for $500. The event is open to anyone wanting to support Good Neighbour.”
Proceeds from this event will support Good Neighbour’s Life Skills Programme, empowering students with real-life experiences in a commercial kitchen and fostering their growth in the hospitality industry.
“Led by dedicated mentors and volunteers, the programme provides students with the opportunity to gain NCEA credits while mastering skills such as food safety, knife skills, cooking techniques, hospitality, and even practical skills like driving a forklift or changing a car tyre.
“Good Neighbour strives to equip students with the tools they need to become confident, contributing members of society.”
The event organisers are Angela and Good Local owner Mel Lawrence, Angela says Mel and her husband Mark have been generous supporters of the event.
Good Neighbour plays a crucial role in empowering students to learn essential skills both in and out of the kitchen, says Angela.
Despite facing challenges due to a recent fire at their restaurant, Mel and Mark have exemplified the spirit of community by donating their staff’s time and talents to ensure the success of the fundraiser.
Their commitment to giving back is a way of thanking the community for their support and to support future students in the hospitality sector.
They’ve partnered with Good Neighbour over the last few months, volunteering in their kitchen and have come together to use their staff’s talents and expertise to help organise a fundraising event.
“Volunteering helps with team moral and fill in time until they are able to open again and at the same time give back to the community,” says Mel.
“We are thrilled to partner with Good Local and showcase the incredible talent and generosity within our community,” says Angela.
“The support from Mel, Mark, and their team is a testament to the power of community collaboration.
“Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of young people and pave the way for a brighter future.”
“Caribbean Nights: A Flavourful Fundraiser is more than just a night of fun – it’s an opportunity to come together as a community and invest in the future of our youth.
“Join us as we celebrate the spirit of giving and make a meaningful impact on the lives of young people in our community.
“Tickets can be brought on Humanitix.com, and people can head to Good Neighbour’s Facebook page for more event information.”
