The historic 131 year old Crane Resort in Barbados suffered from a fire on Friday but the resort is operating as normal now says management.
Christopher Forbes, the property’s general manager, speaking to Caribbean Magazine Plus said that the fire was only at the back end of the resort and all functional areas of the property are fine.
He said: “The fire was in the back of the house, but we are still assessing the damage now.”
He added: “There is no issues with guests, no guest room was affected and we’re fully operational. The damage was at the back of the house, but nothing to do with any operations or guests.”
Mr Forbes also told media on Saturday that at the time the resort was host to over 150 guests, but everyone was fine.
The fire reportedly started at around 6pm on Friday evening in the back store room area, but there is no idea of what started the blaze as Crane employees worked feverishly to out the blaze before fire and rescue came to the scene.
Mr Forbes also told us that it was up to the resort’s owners to determine if their insurance company will pick up the cost or whether or not they will finance the repairs in house.
The property has been owned by Canadian Paul Doyle since 1988 the resort’s website says. The Crane is operated under his investment company, Millennium Investments Ltd and in 2018 the resort announced the sale of room inventory to Hilton Grand Vacations (HGV) Inc to have HGV market certain rooms under their own brand and allow the resort to receive the marketing boost it needed at the time.
Mr Forbes also said however, “No one was hurt, no injuries and no minor injuries. It was just the back of the house where the store rooms are that were affected.”
