In collaboration with the Scottsdale Mint, the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (“CIMA”) is pleased to announce the unveiling of our commemorative coin in celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Inspired by her 70-year reign, the design features two portraits of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the reverse side, while the obverse side bears the Cayman Islands Coat of Arms.
Commenting on this historic celebration, His Excellency The Governor Mr. Martyn Roper, OBE said: “This tribute to Her Majesty The Queen from the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority is a fitting one, as we mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee year. It is another warm tribute from the Cayman Islands to mark this incredible milestone and demonstrates the affection and respect many people on our Islands have for Her Majesty The Queen.”
The Scottsdale Mint has been providing services to CIMA since 2017, producing a wide range of commemorative coins to mark special occasions such as this.
“Today’s launch marks another significant milestone, and we are extremely pleased to once again work with the Scottsdale Mint on the launch of Cayman’s collectible $1 coin in celebration of Her Majesty’s accession to the throne 70 years ago,” said CIMA Managing Director, Mrs. Cindy Scotland, OBE.
She added, “As part of our 25th Anniversary in-house charity raffle, in support of Cayman ARK, CIMA will also reward one lucky staff member with a commemorative coin, an enduring piece of art that will likely be cherished for many years to come.”
As the Minister responsible for the Cayman Islands currency, Honourable Christopher Saunders said, “It is most fitting that the Cayman Islands should pay tribute to Her Majesty the Queen with a commemorative coin issue on the historic occasion of the Platinum Jubilee. I am sure that this coin will be in great demand by collectors around the world, and I urge local residents to purchase this tangible keepsake of a once in a lifetime event.”
The 1-ounce silver coin is now available for purchase at our Currency office located on the first floor of the Cayman Islands Government Administration Building for KYD$40.75 or US$50.00.
The coin is also available on the Scottsdale Mint’s website at www.scottsdalemint.com.
