A Caribbean Magazine Plus Poetry Contest finalist publishes book of poetry dealing with a wide range of issues from sexism, sexual harassment, anxiety and depression and colourism.
Zenna Lewis, an educator and up and coming poet from St Vincent and the Grenadines, sent a press release to Caribbean Magazine Plus about the launch of her first book of poems, “Black Girl Soliloquy :An Anthology of poems by her, for her, about her.”
Ms Lewis was the second place finisher of the Inaugural Caribbean Magazine Plus Poetry Contest in 2021. About the book, Ms Lewis states that her, “book is an empowering collection of poetry that depicts an intimate journey of finding one’s voice.”
Ms Lewis, who said she had suffered from anxiety for most of her life, is now opening up since placing second in the CMP Poetry Contest. She now has the confidence in her talent to open up more and share herself with the world. This is truly an inspiring moment.
The release also said: “The book was inspired by my journey as a young black woman and highlights the many issues women face such as sexual harassment, domestic violence, depression, anxiety and inequality and self-esteem issues. The themes that run through the book are empowerment, inequality, self-love, self-reflection, colourism and sexism.”
It added: The book is the first of a 3 part book series based on women empowerment and issues affecting women.
“Lewis hopes that her book would change lives and shed light on these serious issues affecting women and young girls worldwide.”
