If you talk to a raw-bone Bermudian, they will tell you that they are “not a part of the Caribbean.” This magazine was told by a Bermudian realtor when we were trying to source material that “Bermuda is now part of the Caribbean, anyway,” and we were Gob-smacked.
But here comes Hurricane Ernesto, to show Bermuda that indeed you do share our burdens, whether you wish to acknowledge it or not.
The last time Bermuda felt any form of Hurricane was Leo’s outer bands in 2023 and the last time a hurricane made landfall was September, 2021 with Hurricane Paulette.
We sincerely hope and pray that Ernesto leaves the people of Bermuda alone. “Peace be still.” While Grenada and Jamaica are still dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl in July, let us not forget that the hurricane season is far from over. In fact, we are going into the busiest time for hurricane season, the month of September.
All we can do is tell Bermudians to batten down and secure any loose materials laying around the ground in your yard or on the streets. If utility companies have not done so, please make clear the path to their lines of service.
Let us remain vigilant and mindful that hurricanes are no plaything. Lives are at stake.
