EDITORIAL: Caribbean folks dream of Africa, why?

September 10, 2021

There is a growing amount of chatter on Caribbean people linking back up with their African brothers and sisters. No harm can come of that I imagine. But some have this fantasy that it is all some kind of rosy, love fest and hate the white man kind of thing. I don’t take it as that.

Reason why is because we are trying to cozy back up to the descendants of the folks who initially sold us to the white man to begin with. I will never forget that from my “brothers and sisters” and if they had not start to run out of Black people to sell and was not about to be dominated by the white man themselves they would have been doing it to this day. Without ceasing.

In addition to that and not to give the white man a pass, because some of them really are of the devil as all people are, but let me work around these white people and let my “brothers and sisters” in Africa deal with their own stories and messes.

I mean to say, I can break bread with them but in no way, shape or form should I or anyone break our back trying to claw back to a motherland who sold us initially and put us in this mess to begin with.

Even to this day, pure bred Africans have a rude attitude towards Caribbean blacks like we did them something. Your parents sold us out first, let’s not forget that. They sold us out and didn’t even have the capability to come and look for us, even if they wanted to. We’re not talking about now after you have wrecked the motherland, we are talking at least 300 years ago when the world was not advanced and the Europeans had not run away with technology and advancement. Your people just didn’t care and you don’t care now. The new Africans just realize that we made the most out of slavery and these rocks and cays they brought us to, while they had all of the land, resources and capability to be better than where they are now but they don’t have it.

Needless to say, I’m not one that dreams of Africa or any Utopic dream of togetherness. Save that. Give me Donald Trump any day, because I know where I stand with him. But with my “brothers and sisters,” I am not sure if they will stab me today or sell me again tomorrow- I guess it’s a pick-um sort of thing or I can get both if I want it.
