St Lucian Julien Alfred became the first person of that country to win an Olympic medal, by winning the gold medal in a shocking upset in the Women’s 100 metre race of the 2023 World Champion Sha’Carri Richardson.
Blessing and much congratulations to Alfred and her stellar performance at this 2024 Olympics in Paris, France. Her countrymen should be well proud of her effort.
Alfred has also won silver in the Women’s 200 metres as well. She is booked solid for the history books.
Dominican Thea LaFond also won that country’s first Olympic medal, a gold in the Women’s triple jump.
The Caribbean has gotten much better at the track and field and is a force to be reckoned with. Usually the world only had to be concerned with Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and The Bahamas. But you can be beat by any Caribbean country now. This is amazing.
