EDITORIAL: How long will Vybez Kartel survive?

August 2, 2024

A great day in Jamaica as musical and cultural icon, Vybez Kartel, aka “World Boss,” has finally been released from prison in Jamaica some four months after the UK’s Privy Council ruled that his murder conviction should be quashed due to lack of evidence.

Now we have a menace back on the streets. His murderous music has done nothing but set the tone for more bloodshed around the Caribbean. We must now pray for the youth because we know how easily it is for them to glorify the gangsterism in the popular media today.

But, we have seen people like Kartel oh so many times. A Buju Banton he is not, because Banton was legitimately set up by US law enforcement. But Kartel is nothing more than a foul mouthed hoodlum who happens to have some musical talent. Buju was positive and still is positive.

Apparently too, Kartel is sick with Graves disease. The pictures of World Boss upon coming out of prison in Jamaica shows a sight of a man who is sick and swollen. Not only that, but we are also not sure about the man, Clive “Lizard” Williams that was murdered some 13 years ago that was pinned on Kartel and his associates. Will Lizard’s people come back for revenge?

Kartel may be out of prison but his days are numbered. Most likely he will go back to the dangerous lifestyle because he feels untouchable and that will get him. He will die by revenge from Lizard’s people. Or he will die from stress and other natural circumstances because he will find out the Jamaica he left some 13 years ago is much different and he won’t be able to cope with all that is coming towards him.

We have seen it all the time. We wish him the best, however. But we give Kartel 3 years, tops. If that long.

Spread the love
