EDITORIAL: Is Dickon Mitchell on his way out?

January 5, 2024

The recent move to block the media in Grenada from covering the recent cabinet appointments after a cabinet shuffle only adds fuel to the rumour mill and does not squash anything Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell thought he was trying to allay.

What could have possibly been the reason to block media access from something so routine, so mundane and run of the mill? The first thing we would suspect is that the recent appointees are not pleased with their new portfolios and were set to have open protest.

We also found that a former cabinet minister under the New National Party government was set to sit in Prime Minister Mitchell’s new cabinet. We have to wait to see that.

I can imagine other party members of Mitchell’s National Democratic Congress would be pissed with this. I would be too, especially if I was a loyal supporter of the NDC and this is what Mitchell up and does? We need to have a vote of no confidence on Mitchell. This is not wishing on him but this is a logical thought process of any ambitious parliamentarian or NDC party member who have waited years to be back in power.

Whatever it was in Mr Mitchel’s mind, it was a stupid move to block the media from this. Sometimes you have to let things play out in the open, because now if anyone wasn’t thinking about a vote of no confidence on the Mitchell government, they are now. Blocking media access is a weak move.
