EDITORIAL: Is the Haitian transitional council corrupt?

November 12, 2024

So, the Haitian transitional presidential council has fired Prime Minister Gary Conille, and for what reason we are not sure? But, I can bet you one thing, if there was a scintilla of evidence of his corruption or theft or collusion with gangs, they would have said so and done much worse to him than fire him.

This leads me to question the powers of the TPC, and what were their motives for firing Conille? Since he left, the gangs are attacking Haiti airports and civilian targets as is the peace keeping troops led by Kenya are not there on the ground.

It seems to me that the council may be the ones that need to be removed. They have been inconsistent, at best, on who should be at the helm of the country at this time when they should be organizing an presidential election.

Conille was not the best, we understand that. He did not need to be a PhD in Economic and Finance from Harvard to keep Haiti stable during this period of its history. He just needed to be semi competent, which he was even if only by virtue of his past successes in the Haitian government. He also just needed to just sit there and monitor the process for the next election.

Why would the TPC see fit to move an administrator who was supposed to be gone after the presidential election in any event is beyond comprehension.

Pray for Haiti.
