The children of the region are starving. A great deal of them make it on $10 for school feeding programmes for the entire year. This does not surprise me because some of the countries in the region have a GDP per capita of less than $10,000 per year.
The COVID-19 pandemic only worsened a bad situation in any event. With schools being closes, children had no access to food at all. I can only shudder to think what happened many a day with many of them.
Saying that we should invest in agriculture does not suit us justice. We need more than that. We need for prices on food to go down, too. That is an international problem. We need to open up trade and investment so things can be more free flowing for the people who need it.
There is no magic bullet to shoot in the heart of starvation, but we can do the little things to make things easier for everyone else, especially our young children.
