There is now a growing hunger throughout the region to go after deposed politicians and their supporters. It’s a fool’s run, I would say. Because how quickly could the sitting government find themselves with the same choices and scenarios that led to the temptation that bred any semblance of impropriety.
Of course we are speaking about the former President of Panama Ricardo Martinelli and his 10 year prison sentence for “corruption.” A man that was voted out of office should be enough, unless the theft and corruption as egregious to the point that it put the country at risk and lives were lost. Other than that, leave these former politicians alone and go about fulfilling your agenda.
It’s too easy to “spank” naughty boys and girls, but how do you correct the systems that led to their naughty behaviour? Oftentimes the electorate forgets about the need for reform and sitting politicians won’t remind you either. LOL!
At the end of the day, there is no need to denigrate your country by letting the world know you are corrupt. It’s a seedy look.
Move on.
