There is just so much to celebrate this week. Firstly, the Caribbean has another of its own serving at one of the highest points of power in the world in Karine Jean-Pierre, who was born in Martinique to Haitian born parents. Ain’t that amazing because now she is the White House Press Secretary- God is good!
The news has said the most about her being the first black woman to serve in the post, which is true, and she is also the first openly gay person to serve in the post, which is true also. But what we have to do in the Caribbean is let people know where she comes from and how far she has come from these little islands in the Atlantic Ocean.
For some reason her appointment means more to me than that of Kamala Harris, being of Jamaican descent. Because Kamala was born in the US, while Jean-Pierre was born on Caribbean soil to the lowliest of situations- Haitian parents.
The tide is turning and the slaves that were sold 500 years ago are now so much better than what they were sold from in the motherland of Africa. I keep telling folks they can keep “Africa” since they didn’t want me there, I will keep the Caribbean until I die. You can go back to Africa if you want, I too may visit one day, but by no means do I want to relocate from my home. We have too much talent, we have overcome too much.
The second issue to celebrate is that Prime Minister Timothy Harris of St Kitts and Nevis finally pulled the plug on his disastrous cabinet. Firings and blood-letting is always cleansing and we wish SKN all the best as the people get set to fix this at the polls within the next several months or so.
Now Harris’s fired cabinet ministers can come out openly so people can see who the better of the batch is.
Lastly, this is also this editor’s birthday. Happy birthday editor! We will have a mild celebration with a few friends, but we don’t overdo our birthdays like how others do. We are not that extroverted or love the attention all that much. We are just happy to be alive!
