It goes without saying that the waters of the Caribbean have sharks. Tourists seem to think it is okay to just swim up to a shark like it is not a wild animal. The shark attacks in the recent few weeks around the region is of no fault of the sharks, but of the people who risk their life for childish things.
This most recent attack was of a woman in the Turks and Caicos Islands who wanted to take a firsthand photo of a wild animal. She was not a professional wildlife photographer, but a thrill seeker.
I hope that she is okay, but unfortunately, she lost both of her hands. I hope she finds the strength to move on from such a dreadful accident.
But, a note to other thrill seekers who believe that approaching a wild animal is a smart thing to do: Think twice.
Little do these thrill seekers understand is that when they are hurt or injured, it is bad press for the island that it happened on. For their negligence. People don’t remember that it a shark attack on a random thrill seeker, being unsafe. But they remember shark attack in the Turks and Caicos.
Please, potential visitors, practice safety and be wise. We want you to come, but please take all sensible precaution.
