How on earth does a Police Commissioner get arrested? Ask the officials over there in Trinidad. Not only is it shocking, but utterly embarrassing for any country.
She was arrested for suspicion of illegally procuring an assault rifle. This sounds, from the face of it, trumped up and contrived, but that’s how politics is at times.
However, Erla Christopher is the first female commissioner of police in Trinidad and such a historic appointment comes with its enemies and its fair share of scrutiny.
Trinidadian officials don’t understand how this impacts the nation’s reputation locally and internationally. No one in the world would respect any authority in the country.
What kind of an animal house is being run down there where the police commissioner, who was selected by the incumbent administration, is arrested and held for two days under investigation? Nowhere else in the world does that make sense other than in countries that are falling a part.
Let’s hope sober minds move past this impasse with the commissioner and they can get back to getting at the root of the crime in Trinidad.
