EDITORIAL: Vaccinations are ticking up, but so are infections

Is this one of those cases where we now feel comfortable that we have it under control because of the vaccine, so we have let our guards totally down from the COVID-19 and hence allowing it to ramp up significantly? Infections are rising in the US again, so too in The Bahamas and in Canada. Europe is in a “third wave” and looks like some other places are headed for that dreaded third wave. Last week the Jamaican government put themselves on a three week lockdown.

This doubly shocking because I didn’t know people still wanted to be around people. I could have sworn than social media has made us more anti-social and as a result all of the usual meet-ups and close connections human beings have existed on for centuries was a thing of the past? I guess I was wrong. We do need and crave one another. I’m glad I am wrong too.

But with that into consideration, I know many of us hate being cooped up like criminals, but just a little while longer until most of the world is vaccinated. Then we can party-hearty for the rest of our lives. Love, kiss and hug one another as much as we want.

I just don’t understand why people just don’t chill out until this is over? I just don’t get it?! Be that as it may, just be careful.
