The hurricane season has started a full two days before the official start date this June 1. Is this the foreshadowing of a busy season or just the change in climate? It could be a mix of both, but who knows? The world is getting warmer, but also in some areas the winter seasons are bitterer as well. What we have noticed is the winter, while bitter when in season, lasts much shorter than it used to. Often times winter only lasts between November to end of January and maybe until the early part of February when it times past some northern countries has snow well into March.
But all of this has nothing to do with hurricanes as the Caribbean is nowhere near to be any more protected than it was in 2018 or 2010 or 2000. For the mere fact is that there is nothing many of these small nation states can do to protect themselves against bad weather. More dire, there is nothing they can do against climate change either-their inputs into carbon emissions is not even a half of a percentage to that of large countries like the US or China.
So, here we go, we expect the devastation to continue. It will get worse and worse and we must hunker down in high, dry places when hurricane day comes because that is all many of us would be able to do.
When these hurricanes hit there are no more left wing or right wing politicians, but people and no more Black or White or Indian people, but all patriots as we try to save one another from death.
Should you volunteer for the relief services in your respective countries? If you are able bodied and can secure your family, then by all means go ahead and join the ranks of the rescue teams because they would be in the best position to not only help people but to make it out if things get beyond bad- and don’t say it can’t get really bad, because we remember Dominica and Antigua and Barbuda as well as Abaco and Grand Bahama in The Bahamas. It can get scary bad.
