EDITORIAL: We give our people up too easily!

November 18, 2022

Jack Warner lost his Privy Council appeal on his US extradition case. Not surprising because the US and UK work together, plus over the FIFA related corruption and fraud matters, of course the UK would take it seriously.

He is vowing to fight it to the bitter end, despite the Privy Council being the highest court in the land of Trinidad, which is quite odd for him to vow to continue fighting when the battle is already over.

WE reached out to Mr Warner but he declined any further comment other than what he sent out to the media initially. As you can imagine, he is in terror and shock as the possibility of facing foreign justice would be terrifying to anyone with a pulse.

Will Trinidad give him up to the US? We are not sure if they will follow through with it because it is now up to the Rowley administration to pull the trigger on Mr Warner.

Of course, Mr Warner is a former cabinet minister under the Kamla Persad-Bisssessar’s government between 2010 and 2013 and Mr Warner has been critical of the Rowley government in the media, but at the end of the day he is a Trinidadian and that should count for something regardless.

We give our people up to easily at times. While Mr Warner’s allegations are shocking, he is not a terrorist or was plotting to bomb the US Whitehouse. He just allegedly got involved with what the big boys are involved in, cash for favours and slack money for influence.

Too sad that the allegations stem from the FIFA body and not a government he committed a crime against. FIFA is sports body. A sports governing authority. Not the United Nations or the US government. The allegations are spurious at best. We wish him all the best, but with the Privy Council ruling, it don’t look good as his options are running out.
