After all of these years we still do not have workable and profitable airlift through the region, particularly the Southern Caribbean countries.
For most of the people in the Caribbean countries, they need to travel into Miami Florida in order to visit their sister countries. I remember a trip I took to Barbados in 2020, I had to fly through Miami, Florida to go to a Caribbean country- could not fly direct.
I understand that volume is an issue and no one is going to put a jet aside just for me, but what else can we do?
Pricewise, it is still less expensive to visit South Florida than it is for Vincentians to visit Barbados. This has to be a problem we can fix.
While we do not build airplanes, we can find some profitable charter service between the islands. I knew LIAT has had its challenges in the past, but my goodness let’s make it work.
If we want tourism to take-off and lead our growth out of this COVID-19 pandemic then we need to find way to fix the airlift, because there can be no heads in beds if there is no flights in the sky.
