It is baffling to see that the recent court win by former Ambassador to Russia for Grenada, Oleg Firer, detailed his unlawful dismissal and also that he was dismissed by the former Dr Keith Mitchell New National Party administration well before the 2022 general election.
This is baffling because, as far as we understood, Dr Mitchell and Firer were on very good terms. In fact, it was Dr Mitchell who elevated Firer and allowed him to remain in the country and go on to do many great things for Grenada.
We understand, however, that Firer did have a controversial past and an even more controversial tenure as Ambassador for the Russian Federation. A recipient of the country’s Citizenship by Investment programme, Firer has made himself at home even with the Dr Mitchell family.
We have more questions that need to be answered. We need to be made to understand what was in the mind of the policy makers that encouraged them to turn away from Firer. The court ruling raised more questions than it satisfied Firer.
We need to know.
